The book is Coryat’s Crudities from , written by English courtier Thomas Coryat of Odcombe.   Cardiff University holds a copy of the first edition of Coryats Crudities, bearing the armorial crest of Sir William Burrell. Sir William Burrell served as M.P. for Haslemere in , and again in after a brief stint as a commissioner of excise.
